The metallized appearance of the paper brings added value to the products that contain it. The resulting product can be recycled in a similar way to other specialty papers.
Can metallic foil be recycled?
Usually the plastic is PP or PET and the metal is aluminum. These metallized films are recyclable and should be recycled to reduce contamination. This is because it is not biodegradable. If we put them in landfills, it will cause a lot of harm to the soil and affect the sustainable use of the land.
Is polyester film metallized?
Metallized polyester (Mylar®) is best known by the trade names Mylar, Melinex and Hostaphan in the U.K. and U.S. One of the first major applications for this film was NASA's Echo satellite (early 1960s), which was a balloon made of polyester film.
Can metallized paper be recycled?
Metallized paper is recyclable. We operate with a low scrap rate - no raw material is used in our metallization process, it is simply recycled. Our paper substrates are made from responsibly sourced forest trees.
(In addition to its attractive appearance, one of the main reasons metallized wet strength labels are an attractive option for your customers is because metallized paper can be recycled in the same recycling stream as posted printed paper (the aluminum coating is so thin that it doesn't t hinder the recycling process). This makes it more environmentally friendly than other materials with a similar appearance (such as aluminum foil or plastic film), which are not recyclable.
What is not recyclable?
Not everything can be recycled, even if it is made of recyclable materials. Plastic items such as clothes hangers, food bags and toys are not always recyclable in curbside bins. Other things that are not recyclable include polystyrene foam, bubble wrap, plates, and electrical cords.
Can glossy paper be recycled?
All local recycling programs accept glossy paper as long as the paper does not have a plastic coating. If glossy paper tears easily, it should be fine. If you are not sure, it is best to be safe and dispose of it in the garbage.
Is foil blocking recyclable?
Foil blocking is one method in particular that provides significant results, but is also recyclable and compostable.
Can gold foil be recycled?
The coating weight is usually lower than that of conventional inks. Therefore, as long as the paper/card to which you apply the foil is also recyclable, you can simply toss it in the recycling bin. Foil used on recyclable materials can be re-pulped in the normal waste stream. Foil is a dry, solvent-free printing method.
