Polymers play a vital role in our daily lives, making up everything from household products and textiles to transport, aviation and aerospace components, and they drive the world forward. Generally speaking, polymers, high polymers and macromolecular compounds have similar meanings. Polymers are usually composed of many large molecular chains of varying molecular weight.
The International Conference on Advanced Fibre and Polymeric Materials (ICAFPM), initiated by the State Key Laboratory of Fibre Materials Modification (Donghua University) in 2002, has become one of the largest academic events with the topic of "fibres" in the world. In October last year, the 10th ICAFPM was once again the focus of attention.
Functionalisation and process visualisation of fibres is now a major trend in future fibre research, and the combination of aggregation-induced luminescence and fibres is showing great potential. At the conference, Professor Yury Gogotsi from Drexel University, USA, presented the excellent performance of Mxene in wearable smart devices, which provides a promising direction for future developments in the field of fibres.
In March this year, East China University of Science and Technology received the latest advancement in the research of smart dynamic polymer. The research results were published in an international journal entitled "Self-Evolution of High Mechanical Strength Dry-Network PolythiourethaneThermosets into Neat Macroscopic Hollow Structures". A strategy for the self-evolution of hollow structures proposed in this work has potential applications in the field of new smart materials such as soft robots, stimulus-release containers and connectors for special components.
A few days ago, Sinochem launched a new plan to establish a central research institute. A total of 21 specialised research centres have been set up, involving the development and production of focused high-end frontier materials, new chemical materials, etc., as well as carbon reduction in production processes, carbon separation and the integrated use of CO2 resources.
The Sinochem High-End Materials Research Centre focuses on the exploration and research of cutting-edge materials, as well as polymerisation and modification technologies for advanced polymer materials, and will create a leading source of original technology for high-end materials in China. This reflects China's strong support for polymer materials research and the bright future of organic chemistry, and it is a great opportunity for major professionals to showcase their knowledge.
The Journal of Modern Polymer Chemistry and Materials (JMPCM) is a journal published by the Innovation Forever Publishing Group Limited.
