Growing oysters on the surface of the water is becoming an increasingly popular practice around the world. Floating Oyster Bags allow ample water flow, giving the oysters all the nutrients they need to grow. Most floating systems can be handled and processed by a single worker. This greatly reduces operating costs and increases productivity.

To achieve this, farmers are turning to floating-bag oyster farming systems. On the surface, food is plentiful. The movement of the waves helps shape the oysters' deep cups, while the planting bags provide shelter from predators.

In cold climates, where surfaces freeze in the winter, it is necessary to submerge oyster growing equipment in water. Failure to do so will result in the loss of equipment and stock.

To facilitate this process, either the float is removed from the bag or the lid is removed from the float. With the lid removed, the floats are submerged in water and the structure gently sinks to the bottom. The units will remain on the bottom until thawing in the spring. Producers must take into account that the depth of water under the ice at low tide.
