Transformer is a common and useful device that receives high voltage directly from the power station and converts it to a lower voltage. This allows safe and efficient use of machines and equipment that can handle low voltages in offices, transportation hubs, schools, and factories, thereby saving energy.
Oil-immersed transformer, also known as an oil-filled transformer, is a voltage conversion device that uses oil cooling to reduce the temperature of the transformer. The oil-immersed transformer body is installed in a welded steel tank filled with insulating oil. When the oil-immersed transformer is in operation, the heat of the coil and iron core is first converted into insulating oil and then into cooling medium. According to the capacity, it can be divided into the submerged natural cooling transformer and submerged forced air cooling transformer.
Dry type transformers, also known as cast resin transformers, are power transformers with windings wrapped in epoxy resin. This makes the installation process easier because they are dry and do not require cooling oil. In addition, they do not need to be installed in a fireproof vault. The epoxy layer helps prevent dust and corrosion.
The dry-type transformer has no moving parts and is a static device using an environmentally friendly temperature insulation system. Traditional liquid transformers rely on environmentally friendly materials, such as oil-resistant or fire-resistant liquid media. "Drying" means that the system is cooled by natural ventilation instead of using oil, silicone or liquid to cool the coils and cells. This type of transformer is defined as "voltage change", which means that the air is cooled, not the coolant. The transformer enclosure is ventilated so that the air can cool the coil.
Unlike liquid transformers, dry-type transformers do not need to be placed in fireproof vaults or sump tanks, nor do they need to worry about the discharge of toxic gases. Because dry-type transformers are safer, they can be placed indoors and closer to the load, which makes the entire system more efficient.
Three-phase is a common method of electric power transmission. This is a system for driving motors and many other devices. The three-phase characteristics make it ideal for power systems. The three-phase transformer is a three-legged iron core. Each leg has its own primary and secondary winding. Most of the power is distributed in the form of three-phase AC. Basically, the generator of the power company generates electricity by rotating three coils or windings through the magnetic field inside the generator. These coils or windings are separated by 120 degrees. When they rotate in a magnetic field, they generate electricity and then send it out through three lines like three-phase electricity. Three-phase transformers must have three coils or windings connected in an appropriate order to match the input power, thereby converting the power company's voltage to the voltage level we need, and maintaining the appropriate phase or polarity. Three-phase transformers are a commonly used method in power transmission.
