COB (Chips-on-Board) is a new LED packaging technology for LED optomechanics. Multiple LED chips are packaged together as a lighting module. When it lights up, it looks like a lighting panel.
LED (light-emitting diode) is a new technology of energy-saving and long life. However, compared with traditional light sources such as fluorescent lamps, LED light sources cannot be without disadvantages, especially SMD, HP, flux-LED, etc., because it is small, super-bright, and produces uncomfortable glare. Without a diffuse optical lens, such LEDs often cause glare and zebra crossings. However, when an optical lens or an optical cover is used, when the LED light beam passes through the lens or the optical cover, light loss is caused.
COB LED uses a multi-chip package, which can increase the lighting area by more than 10 times and avoid uncomfortable glare to the maximum.
Light spot uses small size chips to make COB LED packages.
Until now, for small chips? Some well-known LED chip manufacturers can reach 249lm / watt @ 20mA. But the large size LED chip can only reach 161lm / watt at 350mA. The larger the chip size, the lower the light efficiency. In addition, when the LED driver increases the LED current, the light efficiency per watt is even low.
COB of small size chips will be a development trend of LED light source packaging.
