PDC-Parking Distance Control System

The parking distance control system is mainly to prevent the driver from parking conveniently, especially in the city, the PDC is more important. PDC systems usually have radar detectors on the rear bumper or front and rear bumpers of the car to detect obstacles in front and rear. The main purpose is to assist the driver to detect obstacles that cannot be seen in the front and rear, or to stop. When it is away from the car, it can protect the body in addition to convenient parking. The PDC system uses an ultrasonic sensor to detect the distance of the obstacle closest to the car and sounds a siren to warn the driver. The advantage of the PDC is that the driver can know the distance from the obstacle or its car when parking, and the system will be closed when the speed exceeds a certain speed.

The main components

Compared with other systems, the parking distance control system has a simple structure and control principle and fewer components. The main components are ultrasonic sensors and sound generators.

Ultrasonic sensor

Ultrasonic sensors are mounted on the front and rear bumpers to transmit and receive ultrasonic signals and detect obstacle distances. The structure and working principle of all the ultrasonic sensors on the front and rear bumpers are basically the same, but the appearance is slightly different. It should be noted that if the parking distance control system of a certain vehicle only has the reverse distance alarm function, the front bumper has no ultrasonic sensor and the PDC switch is also cancelled.

Sound generator

For the parking distance control system of chassis models such as E38, E39, E46, and E53, sound generators are provided at the front and rear of the compartment respectively. The sound generator has two structural forms, one is the structural form of the speaker, and the other is the structural form of the buzzer. The common configuration is as follows: the front sound generator is a buzzer shared with the instrument panel, and the rear sound generator is a buzzer used separately by the parking distance control system. Damage to the sound generator or poor performance can cause the parking distance alarm function to fail.
