Physical and Chemical Properties:

Relative densit:1.835g/cm3

Melting point:772°C

Boiling point:1935°C

Highly hygroscopic: easily deliquescent when exposed to air.

Solubility: It is easily soluble in water and releases a large amount of heat. Its aqueous solution is slightly alkaline. Dissolve in alcohol, acetone, and acetic acid. Reacting with ammonia or ethanol, CaCl2·8NH3 and CaCl2·4C2H5OH complexes are formed, respectively. At low temperatures, the solution crystallizes and precipitates into hexahydrate. As it gradually heats up to 30°C, it dissolves in its own crystal water and gradually loses water upon further heating. At 200°C, it becomes dihydrate, and when heated up to 260°C, it becomes white porous anhydrous calcium chloride.

Other: Dihydrate calcium chloride is an ionic compound, and its aqueous solution is neutral or weakly alkaline. Under high temperature conditions, dihydrate calcium chloride can dehydrate to form anhydrous calcium chloride (CaCl2), which can be further decomposed into calcium oxide (CaO) and hydrogen chloride gas (HCl) upon heating.
