Different

In most cases, there's likely very little difference between plastic coated, PVC coated, and vinyl coated wire hangers. All three terms (plastic, PVC, vinyl) are commonly used in the industry to describe a general non-metallic coating applied to wire hangers. These coatings are often a type of vinyl or plastic resin.

For most hanger uses, "PVC coated" and "vinyl coated" are likely interchangeable terms.

  • Plastic Coated Wire Hangers: A broad term for any wire hanger with a non-metallic coating, often vinyl or plastic resin.

  • PVC Coated Wire Hangers: Uses Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) for a more rigid and durable coating, offering high resistance to corrosion.

  • Vinyl Coated Wire Hangers: Uses vinyl for a softer, more flexible finish with good protection. While similar in appearance to PVC-coated hangers, vinyl offers a distinct texture and may have slightly different properties.

  • Difference: The primary distinction lies in the coating material. PVC provides a slightly sturdier feel, while vinyl offers more flexibility. Both options can keep clothes securely in place and come in various sizes and colors.

Wire Diameter

PVC Coated Wire Hangers are available in various wire diameters to suit different applications. The diameter is often specified using the Birmingham Wire Gauge (BWG), which provides a standardized measurement. Common wire diameters and their corresponding BWG values are:

  • BWG 18 (1.2 mm): Suitable for lightweight garments like shirts and blouses.

  • BWG 16 (1.5 mm): Ideal for medium-weight items such as trousers and skirts.

  • BWG 14 (2.0 mm): Designed for heavier clothing, including jackets and coats.

  • BWG 13 (2.5 mm): Provides additional strength for bulkier garments and heavier fabrics.

  • BWG 12 (3.0 mm): Best for industrial use and very heavy clothing items.

Custom wire diameters can be ordered, with BWG values ranging from BWG 20 (1.0 mm) for delicate items to BWG 8 (5.0 mm) for specialized heavy-duty applications.

Size

  • Length: Typically between 16 inches (406 mm) and 18 inches (457 mm) from end to end.

  • Thickness: Wire thickness is commonly around 3 mm to 4 mm.

Shape

  • Standard: Traditional triangular shape with rounded edges to prevent clothes from slipping.

  • Notched: Triangular with notches at the shoulder area for hanging garments with straps.

  • Non-Slip: Triangular with a non-slip coating or padding on the shoulders to hold clothes in place.

  • Adjustable: Some models come with adjustable widths to accommodate different garment sizes.
