It looks like white or off-white crusty deposits that are difficult to remove. The presence of scale can cause water flow to be reduced and blocked; acts as an insulator in water heaters, boilers, and other heating equipment, reducing efficiency; and, over time, shortens equipment life; Leave unsightly stains on tile and glassware that no one wants to see.
