How Does the Generator Radiator Work?

The radiator has fins and pipes. Engine coolant is pumped through the pipes by an engine coolant pump. This coolant is hot and comes from the engine and as it passes through the radiator pipes the heat is transferred to the fins.

The radiator will have a rotating fan, driven by an electric motor or by a series of pulleys and belts from the engine crankshaft. This fan blows cool ambient air through the radiator fins. The heat at the radiator fins is transferred to the cool air, heating it up and taking the heat away from the engine. Coolant that is not cooled by this airflow is returned to the engine and the process is repeated.
