Masterbatches reduce the additional precision required to achieve the same addition rate in the final product
Masterbatches help protect the additive from moisture, temperature, and UV light during storage. This can significantly extend the shelf life of the additive, thereby reducing the cost of material lost to degradation.
More uniform dispersion of masterbatches can reduce scrap due to inconsistent color or other critical characteristics that negatively impact quality.
Masterbatch additives result in cleaner production areas, less cross-contamination and potentially faster changeover between different products.
Masterbatches are dust-free and pose no health and safety risks compared to undispersed fine powder pigments or additives. It also eliminates many of the potential hazards of handling powders. These properties result in the need for fewer engineering controls and less personal protective equipment.
Masterbatch methods are open to a variable range of colors and other properties compared to compounds. The alternative to using masterbatches is to purchase fully compounded materials, or compound from raw materials on site , and easily prepare more material than is used in the production run.
