Maintain The Circular Saw Blade With a Regular Toothbrushing
Using a circular saw with a dirty blade is like shaving with a dirty razor. In both cases, you have to deal with rougher cuts and more bleeding possibilities. Fortunately, cleaning a circular saw blade is as easy as cleaning a razor blade.
Why clean the saw blade
Over time, asphalt and resin accumulate on the edge of the saw blade. This effectively covers the edges and makes the blade look dull. Friction and heat increase, cutting becomes more difficult, and the resulting cutting edges are not as clean as they can be. Although this may seem counterintuitive, blunt blades are more dangerous than sharp ones. The saw blade that cuts at maximum efficiency reduces the pressure on the saw motor.
Even if you don't use your circular saw often, it is still a good idea to clean its blades quickly two to three times a year. Take this opportunity to carefully check the tip of each tooth on the blade. If many teeth are damaged or dull, consider sharpening or buying a new one. Ordinary steel saw blades can be sharpened (or at least repaired) with a triangular metal file, while saw blades with carbide teeth must be sharpened professionally, although it is usually more cost-effective to buy a new saw blade.

Choose a cleaning solution
There are several different cleaners that you can use on the saw blade. Some woodworkers like citrus cleaner, largely because they can use the same product to clean almost everything around the house—a big bonus. Other people use oven cleaners, but if you are like many people, you may not like to clean your oven with toxic substances, let alone your saw blade. In addition, a major blade manufacturer claims that oven cleaners can damage the carbide tip and the adhesive that holds the blade.
Simple Green is a common household cleaner that can clean saw blades (it can also clean everything around the house). Simple Green is a concentrated, versatile cleaner/degreaser that can be found everywhere in grocery stores and hardware stores. With a name like "Simple Green", you might think this is a trivial health store product. Well, it is non-toxic and biodegradable, but it was originally created for industrial cleaning and degreasing.
A fast cleaning
Simple green should be diluted for regular saw blade cleaning, although it can be used directly from the bottle for more severe sticky buildup. Follow the steps below for quick and regular cleaning:
Mix one part of Simple Green with two to three parts water in a shallow container.
Remove the saw blade from your circular saw and be careful of the sharp teeth.
Soak the blade in the cleaning solution for a few minutes.
Use a toothbrush or a small brass brush to scrub the teeth and any sticky areas of the blade until they are clean.
Rinse the blade with water, pat it dry with a paper towel, and then install the saw.
