Obviously, if the transmission line is not properly insulated from the support of the tower or pole, then the current will flow in the direction of the ground through the tower and thus become dangerous. Of course, the transmission line is always supported by insulators placed on the poles. Insulators used for towers must have high mechanical strength, high resistance, and high relative permittivity, etc.
These are divided into different types according to their ratings, which include the following. These are used in transmission and distribution systems, where each insulator consists of several insulating discs. If one disc uses 11kv voltage, the remaining discs use 66kv voltage.

Post insulators are commonly used in substations or power generation substations.
Post insulator specifications:
In substations, it is suitable for different voltage levels (from high to low voltage).

This insulator has a high mechanical strength.
Station Post Composite Insulator
Shackle Insulator occurs in small size on the overhead distribution system.
Specification of Shackle Insulator:
In the distribution line, the metallic strip is used to connect the shackle insulator.
This insulator has a bearing capacity up to the 33 kV voltage.
In the circular turn or bend position, a shackle insulator can work.
Pin insulators are mostly used in power distribution systems.
Pin insulator specifications:
Pin insulator can withstand voltage capacity of up to 11kV.
It is made of material with high mechanical strength.
It can be connected with horizontal position and vertical position.
This insulator is used in high voltage overhead distribution lines.
The pin insulator has a simple structure.
It requires less maintenance compared to other insulator types.
Line Pin (Post) Composite Insulator
Strain insulators are similar to suspension insulator types. Like suspension insulators, strain insulators can be used on overhead transmission lines.
However, it has slightly different specifications and working roles.
Strain insulator specifications:
It is used for higher voltage conditions, i.e. above 33 kV.
It is mainly used at the bends or arms of transmission lines.
Suspension insulators are called disc insulators. In most cases, suspension insulators are made of glass or porcelain insulating materials.
Long Rod Suspension Orientating Composite Insulator
Especially, glass type insulators are used in light weight conditions.
Suspension insulator specifications:
Insulators with a voltage operating capacity of 11 kV to 765 kV.
It is mostly used in overhead transmission systems or lines.
It provides greater flexibility for overhead lines.
Multiple discs can be used depending on the voltage level (from low to high).
Generally placed together with steel towers.
Suspension insulators require higher heights to support multiple discs.
Suspension insulators are the most beneficial than other insulators. The reason is that if any disc is damaged by a suspended insulator, the remaining discs will run. Damaged discs can be easily replaced.
