International Committee of the Red Cross, founded in 1863 in Geneva, is an independent and neutral organization. Its humanitarian responsibilities mainly grow out of the 1949 Geneva Conventions. Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, it has around 13000 employees in more than 80 countries around the world. Its funds are mainly from the donations of governments, national Red Cross societies and the Federation of Red Crescent Societies. Its purpose is to provide humanitarian protection and assistance for the victims of war and armed violence. In the official mission statement, it mentioned that “The International Committee of the Red Cross is an impartial, neutral and independent organization. Its unique humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of war and domestic violence and provide them with assistance”. It also guides and coordinates international assistance and promotes and consolidates the work on humanitarian law and principles of universal humanity. The International Committee of the Red Cross proposed the adoption of International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in 1965.
