1.About gate valve:

Gate valves are also used in plants in the oil and gas industry. However, they are only used to start and stop flow within the piping system. Unfortunately, they don't regulate traffic.

In a gate valve, the closing element is a plate or disc that runs parallel to the plane of the valve seat. Gates in dams are a well-known example.

Gate valves are also different in design from globe valves. Instead of discs, these valves have parallel or wedge-shaped gate faces, and they are designed with rising or non-rising stems. This helps workers know when the valve is fully open or fully closed.

These valves are known to have low pressure drop and little resistance to fluid flow, especially in the fully open position. Best of all, the gate valve can be set for flow in any direction. Globe valves, on the other hand, cannot.

Gate valves are not designed to regulate flow, and if they did, we would observe noise, vibration, and seat/disc damage in gate valves. Whereas a gate valve is not available, a globe valve can sometimes be used to stop flow. Gate valves are often used for isolation.

Gate valves can be used in both directions, as the design can be used in both flow directions. The same gate valve can flow in both directions. The stop valve is usually marked with the flow direction on it and used in accordance with the flow direction.

2.Globe valve:

Globe valves and gate valves are designed for many applications in a variety of fields, including the oil and gas industry. However, each valve functions differently.

Globe valves are commonly used to stop, start and regulate flow in pipelines. They are made of spherical bodies and discs. The disc in the globe valve is designed to move up and down from the seat. These vertical movements allow the space between the disc and seat to slowly change as the valve begins to close. This gives the valve good throttling capability and enables it to regulate the flow within the pipeline.

The flow of the globe valve depends on the space between the valve plate and the valve seat. The further apart they are, the more liquid will flow through the valve.

Globe valves are also designed with a stem connected to the bonnet just above the disc to maintain a tight seal when the valve is fully closed. Therefore, globe valves are less likely to have seat leakage than other valves.

These valves can double as control valves and are typically used in aggressive, highly viscous media as well as high pressure and high temperature systems.

In contrast to gate valves, globe valves cannot be sealed. Gate valves have tight globe capabilities in pipelines. Because of this tight globe capability of gate valves, it is used upstream of globe valves.

You may have seen this gate and globe valve combination on the discharge line of a pump. Globe valves require more torque to operate than gate valves.

This greater power requirement for globe valves is also taken into account when designing automatic and electric actuators for valves. In globe valves, the closing element, often called a "poppet", moves perpendicular to the plane of the valve seat.

Globe valves can open under high differential pressure, while gate valves will bind and fail to open.

Globe valves can be repaired in situ, while almost all gate valves need to be removed from the piping system to fix leaks.

Gate valves are used for on-off control, while globe valves can also be used for flow regulation. A gate valve of the same size is less expensive than a globe valve. Gate valves have virtually no fluid retention in the line due to their design, but globe valves have a larger volume due to flow direction.

The gate valve has very little resistance to fluid flow in the fully open position, and there is little pressure drop across the valve. Globe valves, on the other hand, have a high pressure drop, even in a fully open condition, and a lot of resistance to fluid flow.

Gate valves are one-way and can be placed in any way. Globe valves are not. Flow valves, globe valves, and gate valves all have similar housings, but the operating functions of the two are not very different.
