What is Hexagonal Wire Mesh?

Hexagonal wire mesh is also known as chicken wire, gabion mesh, hexagonal mesh.

Wire material is low carbon steel, stainless steel, zinc 5% aluminum alloy (galfan), iron.

The surface treatment is galvanized, PVC coated or galvanized with PVC coating.

Hexagonal wire mesh is also know by the name of chicken mesh. Hexagonal wire mesh is manufactured from galvanized iron or PVC coated metal wire. Hexagonal wire mesh with good corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance can be used as reinforcement, protection and insulation materials such as mesh wire or poultry mesh, materials for wrapping and protecting pipes, decoration, plaster mesh and fencing.

The hexagonal wire mesh netting has meshes of hexagonal shape specified for agricultural, insulation and fencing purposes.the hexagonal netting consists of hexagonal shaped meshes, formed by twisting adjacent wires two by two, alternatively forming a twist to the right and to the left; the netting may have a border composed of one, two or more selvedge wires with a greater diameter than that used for the net; for widths above 50 cm or more stretching wires may be woven in the netting at equal distances. Wire meshes with rectangular or diamond shape openings are form by linking two wires adjacent to each other.

Here, the adjacent wires cross once. However, the wires of hexagonal net are wove around each other more than twice, forming a stronger structure than the others. Hence, if any of the wires is cut, it does not completely break down like in the chain link.

Hexagonal wire mesh owns hexagonal shape holes with same sizes. Its material mainly is low carbon steel. According to different surface treatments, hexagonal wire mesh can be divided into two types: galvanized wire and PVC coated wire. Wire diameter of galvanized hexagonal wire mesh is from 0.3 mm – 2.0 mm, and Wire diameter of PVC coated hexagonal wire mesh is from 0.8 mm – 2.6 mm. Hexagonal wire mesh with good flexibility and anti-corrosion is widely used as gabion for protecting slopes. According to different applications, hexagonal wire mesh can be divided into chicken wire and slope protection wire (or gabion wire mesh), the former one has smaller mesh openings.
