Flexible classification is very important to determine the type of flexible printed circuit board you are designing. Let's take a closer look at what the different categories and types of flexibility are and how they differ.
Elastic classification
The flexible aluminum pcb classified depends on the level of inspection and testing required and the performance requirements of the finished product. There are three different levels.
The first kind of
Apply to. General electronic products, including consumer products, some computers and computer peripherals, are suitable for applications where cosmetic defects are not important and the main requirement is to complete the function of the printed plate. Minimum inspection, testing and performance standards are required. Applications include disposable electronics.
The second type of
Apply to. Specialized service electronic products, including communications equipment, complex business machines, instruments requiring high performance and extended life, require uninterrupted service, but are not critical. Moderate inspection, testing, and performance standards are required. More expensive than first-tier products, the boards are used in cameras, smartphones and medical diagnostic devices.
Level 3
Apply to. High reliability electronic components include equipment and products where continuous performance is critical on demand. Equipment downtime cannot be tolerated and must be used when needed, such as in life support programs or flight control systems. This type of printing board is suitable for applications requiring a high level of assurance and service. The highest standards of inspection, testing and performance are required. These are the most expensive flexible panels. Applications include medical devices and military/aerospace electronics.
What are the types of flexible printed circuit boards?
The type of flexibility depends on the number, structure and material of the conductive layer, and whether there are electroplated through holes.
The IPC type 1
Single side flexible printed circuit board. This is the most common type of flexible circuit and is ideal for dynamic flexible applications. Contains a conductive layer. It can be found with or without reinforcement. SMT pads are accessible only on one side.
The IPC type 2
Double-sided flexible printed circuit board. It contains two conductive layers and has electroplated through holes. It can be found with or without reinforcement. The copper is bonded on both sides of the substrate and then drilled, electroplated, etched and insulated by a dielectric overlay on top and bottom.
The IPC type 3
Multilayer flexible printed circuit board. Containing three or more conductive layers with plated through holes. Plated through-holes are used to create conductive layers of interconnection. You can find one with or without reinforcement.
The IPC type 4
Multiple layers of a combination of rigid and flexible materials containing three or more conductive layers with electroplated through holes.
The IPC type 5
Flexible or rigid-flexible printed circuit board. Contains more than two conductive layers. No plating through hole.
