Sometimes, it can be difficult to choose the best vase shape for the flowers you receive or pick from the garden. Our general tip is not to be afraid to cut the stems to better fit the vase or use decorative pebbles or shells to support the flowers.
When choosing a vase, always look for openings - openings that are too wide or too narrow can make it harder to use and change the shape of the arrangement.
Check out our guide below on vase types and shapes to match your next bouquet.
1.Tall glass vases
Usually larger in size, tall cylindrical vases provide structure and are great with high-stemmed flowers such as roses, lilies or gladiolus. This vase shape is also one of the best for sunflowers, peonies and hydrangeas! Flowers with rich leaves also help to create greater volume when placed in tall, round, floor-to-ceiling vases.
Planning to spoil your loved one next Valentine's Day or anniversary? You may have asked yourself, "How big is a vase with 50 roses?" . You're lucky! Tall vases are perfect for holding large roses.
Want to know how to arrange artificial flowers in tall vases for your home or wedding decor? Pair these floor vases with some vase fillers, such as decorative pebbles and water droplets, and you have a match made in heaven! Because of their shape and height, any bundle must look controlled and in place.
2.Narrow-necked glass vases
Narrow neck/convex vases look beautiful with tall thin flowers or thin stem flowers because of their narrow opening and length. Because of its shape, this vase is not suitable for holding thick, luscious bouquets.
Instead, choose flowers that you would also put in a bud vase. If you want a wild and rustic look, opt for flowers like peonies - with delicate petals, this flower spills over the opening of the vase but looks subtle and neatly arranged.
3.Fish tank glass vases
When choosing flowers for a fishbowl vase shape (or round vase), choose flowers that overflow the vase opening.
Top-heavy flowers such as artificial orchids, roses, chrysanthemums, daisies, carnations, and even calla lilies will all look beautiful in a fish tank. To create the perfect round vase for flower arrangement, you need to cut the stems up to tank height. Flowers with rigid stems are particularly useful in this vase style because they can stand up straight.
Want to know how to arrange carnations in a vase? Gather the flowers together (you can choose the same color or match complementary colors), tie the stems with some bacarra strings and add some sweet greens. Just make sure you have enough flowers to scatter around the dome shape!
4. Small cube glass vase
Small cube shaped vases look easy to fill, but can be tricky. The key is to find flowers that are large but don't grow too wide, and then use them as often as possible.
Delicate flowers such as frangipani, succulents, violets or anemones are perfect for this vase shape. But for flowers in a square vase, just be sure to cut the stems short and pack them tightly together.
If the bottom of a glass square vase feels a bit empty, try adding some decorative pebbles, such as river pebbles, to the bottom! They can fill any space, and they really work well with flower arrangements.
So, now that you know some different types of vases, it's time to get creative! Mix and match different vase styles as centerpieces for home decor and even events. If you feel something is missing from the vase, then leaves and vase fillers are always helpful!
