Why I Should Carry Multiple Outboard Motors on My Boat

Boats can have inboard, outboard or stern drive motors. Outboard motors are mounted on a transom outside the boat. Fishing boats and light commercial boats are the main users of outboard motors. Outboard motors are easy to maintain and they also maximise the space available inside the boat. These engines offer different benefits and challenges. The following are the benefits of running more than one outboard engine.

Increase running speed

Multiple output motor installations provide higher horsepower. A hull with 1000 hp is much faster than a hull with 750 hp.

Modern motors are lighter than their counterparts from decades ago. Today, there is little need to worry about extra weight and drag when upgrading to multiple outgoing motors.

Good for trolling

High-end fishing tests speed and skill. The ability to reach the fishing area quickly is one of the factors for success. Another is the skill to be quiet and not scare the fish away. Most boats are equipped with a powerful outboard (or multiple outboards) to accelerate to the fishing spot. Low-powered outboards produce much less noise at low speeds.

Dinghies can be used

There is another reason why boats have multiple outboard motors - to allow the use of inflatable dinghies. Sometimes an additional outboard motor is attached to allow the use of inflatable dinghies. Larger boats have at least two engines connected to them - a larger one to operate the smaller boat and a smaller one to operate the dinghy.

Be prepared

Relying on just one engine can be a little dangerous when going deep into the sea. Multiple motors ensure that a wing motor is available in the event of a failure. Outbound motors are efficient and aesthetically pleasing. It's safer to have a backup when venturing deep into the sea.

Enhanced navigability

Strong tidal currents in the sea are more common than you might think. A basic rule of boating in rough seas is to let the tide go against you. Multiple outgoing motors will come in handy when it's time to climb a high tide.

Despite sophisticated weather forecasts, anglers often encounter poor weather conditions. Electric storms can be particularly dangerous during long distance boating.

How many outboard motors is proper exactly? The government determines the maximum horsepower approved for different boats. Exceeding this figure can be dangerous. Outbound motor manufacturers actively advertise a wide range of motors. This strategy allows them to sell more units.

It may even be illegal to overwhelm a boat by adding too many outboard motors. The federal government and the states have strict laws that are clearly defined. Please follow CALON to get more than one outboard motor!
