Face painting is a multi-step process that requires time and the use of the right supplies. Remember that you will apply the product to your skin for a long time, so it is important to do things the right way and take time to take care of the model's skin and overall health while painting.

Plan your painting

Before you start face painting, unless you want a more free look, you need to draw design sketches. Having a sketch allows you to see if each part of the design is suitable for the area of the body you are going to draw, and it can also be used as a guide after you draw it.

How to prepare the skin and model before face painting

In order for the body paint to stick to the skin, you need to make sure that the skin is clean and oil-free. Please follow the steps below to get the model's skin ready for face painting.

Clean face

The first step is to clean the skin. Let the model take a bath and clean the skin with mild soap. Before painting, you don't want them to exfoliate or undergo any other abrasive treatment. Just take a quick shower to remove dirt and oil from the skin.

After cleaning, dry it with a towel. Do not apply any lotion, oil, insect spray, sunscreen, etc., as these products will interfere with the way the paint adheres to the skin.

Use barrier spray

If you want the paint to last longer, you can spray a barrier spray on your skin before spraying. This will help prevent your body from sweating or producing oil that may stain your design.

How to apply body paint

There are different formats for face painting, depending on the format you apply them to.

How to use water activated solid paint

These are by far the most popular face paintings. They are cake-like and can be hard and dry or clay-like. They can be applied with a sponge or brush with water.

Just moisten your sponge or brush slightly, you want them to be moist and not dripping, then rub the applicator back and forth on the body paint cake until it is full of creamy consistency. Then, apply to the skin as needed.

Using the sponge, you should gently tap it over and over again until you get a good coverage. You can also use the stippling effect or the dry blending effect (using an almost dry sponge) to create different textures.

If you use a brush, we recommend that you use a Kabuki brush and apply the paint in circular motions for better coverage. You can also use body brushes, they are usually 1 1/4 inches wide.

For detailed work, you need to choose a good set of face and face painting brushes, including flat brushes, round brushes, hazelnut brushes, etc. Each brush will give you different strokes, so find a few to play with!

The above are the steps of face painting. If you have other questions about face painting, please check here, I believe you will find the answer.
