Plasma cutting is a process in which electrically conductive materials are cut through by means of an accelerated jet of hot plasma.

Plasma cutting is widely used in manufacturing, automobile repair and restoration, industrial construction, salvage and scrapping. Due to the high cutting speed, high precision and low cost, plasma cutting is widely used.

How Plasma Cutting Works?

Air Plasma Cutting Machine

This tool emits an electric arc through gas, which passes through a narrow opening. With this extreme heat, the plasma cutter increases the temperature of the gas and transforms it into the fourth state of matter, called plasma. Therefore, the instrument can pass through metals such as steel, aluminum, brass, and copper with almost no resistance.

Benefits of Plasma Cutting

More Versatility

Plasma cutting can be performed on diverse types of metal. It uses an electric arc to cut any conductive metal like steel, iron, copper, brass, aluminum, stainless steel, and other durable materials.

Plasma can also cut different materials stacked on top of one another with the fastest cutting speed.

Fast Cuts

If you compare the cutting speed of a plasma cutter with any cutting tools, all are the winners. This is because it’s a time saver and a lot easier than other cutting equipment.

The plasma cutting machine greatly saves cutting time. The plasma cutting machine does not need to be preheated before cutting. And the time it takes to complete the work is a quarter of that of any other cutting tool.

Cutting Precision

When using sheet metal to cut different shapes or angles, precise cutting is necessary. And this is one of the main advantages of the plasma cutting machine. Plasma cutting has high cutting quality, smooth and flat incision, narrow incision, heat-affected zone and deformation smaller than flame cutting

Lower Cost

Plasma can cut things faster, reduce waste, and cause little loss due to work-related injuries. Therefore it is more cost-effective than other cutting methods.

Safety

Plasma cutting also relies on inert gas, so it is safer than oxygen cutting. Because this cutting process uses gas that is NOT highly flammable, it’s a safer method than other processes.

Low Maintenance

The use and maintenance cost of the plasma cutting method is low in the later stage, only the relevant consumables and wearing parts need to be purchased, and the matching plasma power supply needs to be purchased in the early stage.
