PPR is the abbreviation of English Polypropylene-Random. Commonly known as Type III polypropylene. PPR pipe is an updated product of UPVC water supply pipe, aluminum plastic pipe, PE pipe, PE-X pipe and PE-RT pipe. Because it uses random copolymerization technology, the strength and high temperature resistance of polypropylene are well guaranteed, thus becoming the main force of water pipe materials.

 

Development of ppr pipe

Compared with traditional cast iron pipes, galvanized steel pipes, cement pipes and other pipes, PPR pipes have the advantages of energy saving and material saving, environmental protection, light weight and high strength, corrosion resistance, smooth inner wall and no scaling, simple construction and maintenance, and long service life. It is widely used in construction, municipal, industrial and agricultural fields such as building water supply and drainage, urban and rural water supply and drainage, urban gas, electric power and optical cable sheath, industrial fluid transportation, agricultural irrigation and other fields.

In recent years, with the increasing market demand in construction, municipal engineering, water conservancy engineering, agriculture and industry and other industries, China's PPR pipe industry has shown a rapid development trend. In 2009, the production volume of plastic pipes was 5.804 million tons, an increase of 18.9% year-on-year. From January to September 2010, the production volume of plastic pipes was 5.528 million tons, an increase of 28.23% year-on-year. At the same time, as consumers continue to improve product quality requirements for environmental protection, health, durability, etc., while the output of plastic pipes in my country has increased, the product quality level has been continuously improved, the technological progress of the industry has been accelerating, and the number of brand-scale enterprises has continued to increase. Varieties of materials and new structures are constantly emerging, advanced system design concepts are emerging one after another, the functionality of products is more obvious, and the application fields are further broadened. Analysis believes that the market share of China's plastic pipes has exceeded 30% of all pipes.

By 2015, plastic pipes will be used for 85% of construction drainage pipes, 80% of construction rainwater drainage pipes, and 50% of urban drainage pipes will be used in urban drainage pipes. Water supply and hot water for buildings will be used by 2015. 85% of the supply and heating pipes are made of plastic pipes, 80% of urban water supply pipes (below DN400mm) are made of plastic pipes, 90% of rural water supply pipes are made of plastic pipes, and 40% of urban gas plastic pipes (medium and low pressure pipes) are used in construction wires. 90% of the threading and sheathing tubes are made of plastic tubes. According to forecasts, during the Twelfth Five-Year Plan period, my country’s plastic pipe production will maintain a growth rate of about 10%. By 2015, the national plastic pipe production is expected to be close to 12 million tons, and the market share of plastic pipes in all types of pipes in the country will exceed 60%.

Production Process

PPR is a random copolymer polypropylene synthesized by the gas phase method (PP and PE). Its structural feature is that the PE molecules are randomly linked among the PP molecules, and the molecular weight ranges from 300,000 to 800,000. The pipes produced from PPR raw materials are also called random copolymer polypropylene pipes. They are plastic pipe products developed and applied in the late 1980s and early 1990s. With its own excellent performance and a wide range of applications, it has occupied a place in the plastic pipe market and is a recognized green product. But in recent years, the market operation, the above-mentioned analysis of PPR plastic pipe quality problems and examples have found that there are many problems in the PPR pipe market, and these problems have largely restricted the sound development of PPR pipes.

As a new type of water pipe material, PPR pipe has unique advantages. It can be used as a cold water pipe or a hot water pipe. The interface of the PPR pipe adopts hot-melt technology, and the pipes are completely fused together. Therefore, once the installation and pressure test pass, it will not be aging and leaking after a long time like the aluminum-plastic pipe.

Advantages: moderate price, stable performance, heat insulation, corrosion resistance, smooth inner wall without scaling, safe and reliable piping system, impermeable, and the service life can reach 50 years.

Disadvantages: high construction technology requirements, special tools and professionals are required for construction to ensure the safety of the system.

Corrosion resistance and sterilization of copper pipe

It is the first-class product in water pipes. There are two ways to connect copper pipes: ferrule and welding. Ferrule is the same as aluminum-plastic pipe, and it has the problem of aging and water leakage for a long time. Most copper pipes are installed by welding. Welding means that the joints are welded together by oxygen, so that they can be the same as PPR water pipes and never leak. Because of its high price, it is generally used in high-end apartments or villas.

Advantages: high strength, stable performance, sterilization, and not easy to corrode.

Disadvantages: high price and difficult construction. In the cold winter, it is easy to cause heat loss, high energy consumption and high use cost.
Aluminum plastic pipe is easy to age and leak

Aluminum-plastic pipe was once a popular pipe on the market. Because of its light weight, durability and convenient construction, its flexibility is more suitable for home furnishing. In Guangdong and Shanghai, where the decoration concept is relatively new, the aluminum-plastic pipe has gradually disappeared from the market and is a product that has been eliminated.

Advantages: The price is relatively cheap, it can be bent arbitrarily, the surface is smooth, and the construction is convenient.

Disadvantages: easy to age, many hidden dangers, and short service life. Practice has proved that after one year of use, the pipe joints are prone to leakage.

Galvanized pipe is easy to be blocked and easily polluted

You suddenly open the water pipe you haven't used for a long time and you find that it is "yellow" water flowing out. In the past, this kind of thing is very easy to happen in the galvanized iron pipe in the old house. Such "yellow" water is also harmful to the human body. Four ministries and commissions including the Ministry of Construction of China also issued documents clarifying that galvanized pipes have been banned from 2000, and galvanized pipes are rarely used for cold water pipes in newly built communities.

Advantages: complete varieties and many matching fittings.

Disadvantages: it belongs to the obsolete products banned by the state. It is easy to corrode and rust, resulting in poor water flow and easily polluting the water source.

PVC pipe is easy to break and deform

In fact, it is a kind of plastic pipe, and the joints are usually glued together. Because of its poor frost resistance and heat resistance, it is difficult to use as a hot water pipe; the strength is not suitable for the pressure requirements of water pipes, so cold water pipes are rarely used. In most cases, PVC pipes are suitable for wire pipes and sewage pipes. In addition, the chemical additive phthalate, which makes PVC softer, has a great impact on the kidneys, liver, and testicles in the human body, and can cause cancer and kidney damage, so it is not recommended to buy.

Advantages: light, easy to install, low cost, and not perishable.

Disadvantages: poor quality will be brittle, easy to break, and easy to deform when exposed to heat.
