Four high rolling mill
A four-high mill is used to thin materials to minute thicknesses. By using support rollers, roll deflection problems can be avoided and smaller work rollers can be used. The reduction of the diameter of the work roll reduces the total separation force required under pressure. Reduction reduces the total energy required by the material and produces a more consistent thickness output.
Cluster factory
A cluster mill is a special type of four-high mill in which each of the two work rolls is supported by two or more larger support rolls capable of rolling hard materials. It may be necessary to use reels of very small diameter but considerable length to achieve the desired effect. These mills can roll hard materials, including stainless steel, titanium alloys and nickel alloys.

For continuous mills a series of mills must be used to pass the same amount of material through each stand in a given time. If the cross section is reduced, the velocity must increase proportionally. The speed of each set of rolls is synchronous, so the input speed of each stand is equal to the output speed of the previous stand. Classified by volume number and arrangement

A two-high mill consists of a two-high stand and two horizontal rollers that sit on top of one another. In this type of mill, one or both rolls are adjustable. In its operation, metal passes between two rollers at the same speed but in opposite directions.
