Sulfur can also promote the formation of nodules in legumes and increase the ability of nitrogen fixation. In addition, certain sulfur fertilizers also improve soil properties. For example, the application of sulphur powder or liquid sulphur dioxide fertilizer can reduce the pH of calcareous soil, thereby increasing the availability of phosphorus, iron, manganese, zinc and other elements in the soil; when gypsum is applied to alkaline soil, the calcium ions in it can be replaced in the soil colloid The sodium ions from the water will form sodium sulfate (Na2SO4) and be discharged from the soil with water, thereby reducing the content of exchangeable sodium in the soil and reducing the harm of sodium ions to soil properties and crops.
