Carrier Tape refers to a belt-shaped product used in the field of electronic packaging. It has a specific thickness and is equidistantly distributed in its length direction with holes for holding electronic components and positioning holes for index positioning.
The carrier tape is mainly used in the electronic component mounting industry. It is used with cover tape to carry electronic components such as resistors, capacitors, transistors, diodes, etc. in the pocket of the carrier tape, and form a closed package by sealing the cover tape on top of the carrier tape to protect the electronic components. No pollution and damage during transportation. When the electronic components are mounted, the cover tape is peeled off, and the automatic mounting equipment uses the precise positioning of the index hole of the carrier tape to take out the components in the pocket one by one, and place them on the IC board.
Carrier Tape
According to the size of the electronic components carried by the package, the carrier tape is also divided into different widths. With the development of the electronics market, chips have become smaller and smaller, and carrier tapes are also developing in a more precise direction. At present, carrier tapes with a width of 4mm are already available on the market.
In order to protect electronic components from being damaged by static electricity, some precision electronic components have clear requirements for the antistatic level of the carrier tape. According to the different levels of antistatic, the carrier tape can be divided into three types: conductive type, antistatic type and insulating type.
Embossed carrier tape and stamped carrier tape. Embossed carrier tape refers to the local stretch of the carrier tape material by means of mold embossing or blister to form pockets with a concave shape. This carrier tape can be shaped into pockets of different sizes according to specific needs to suit the storage. The size of electronic components; stamping carrier tape refers to punching through a die to form penetrating or semi-penetrating pockets. The thickness of the electronic components that this carrier tape can hold is limited by the thickness of the carrier tape itself, and generally can only be used for Pack smaller components.
The material of the carrier tape mainly includes two types: plastic and paper. Embossed Carrier Tape are mainly composed of plastic materials. The mainstream in the market is PC carrier tapes, PS and ABS carrier tapes. In addition, there are also a small amount of carrier tapes made of PET, APET and other materials. The stamping carrier tape is mainly made of paper material or PE composite material.
PC materials are characterized by high mechanical strength, good transparency, good dimensional stability, high glass transition temperature, and good heat resistance. The mechanical strength of the PS material is lower than that of the PC material, so sometimes it is made into a three-layer composite sheet with ABS material to increase the tensile strength of the carrier tape. The mechanical strength of the PET material is close to that of PC, but because it is a crystalline material, the dimensional stability is poor .
According to the molding method of the bag, it can be divided into two molding methods: batch type and continuous type. Compared with the batch type, the continuous molding method usually has better dimensional stability and higher product dimensional accuracy. For batch molding, it is more suitable for preparing large-size pockets.
