Product Description
The English abbreviation of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose is HPMC, which is a non-ionic cellulose ether with a molecular formula of C56H108O30. CAS 9004-65-3, odorless, tasteless, white powder.
Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) absorbs moisture after drying but is stable. The solution is stable at pH 3-11. As the temperature increases, the viscosity of the solution decreases. Heating-cooling can reversibly transform HPMC from a solution state to a gel state. According to different grades and concentrations, the gel temperature is 50~90℃. HPMC water solution has anti-enzyme effect and maintains good viscosity stability during long-term storage. However, its aqueous solution is susceptible to microbial attack, so preservatives should be added during storage. When HPMC is used as a thickening agent in eye drops, benzalkonium chloride is usually added as a preservative.
