How to prevent static electricity when using Cryogenic Liquid Tank in winter?

The tanks of the Cryogenic Liquid Tank that we often use are usually double-layered. The inner cylinder stores liquefied gas, and a thermal insulation layer is formed between the inner cylinder and the outer cylinder to reduce the heat introduced into the inner cylinder by conduction, convection, and radiation. Today we will talk about the static problem of low-temperature storage tanks.

Cryogenic Liquid Tank

Cryogenic Liquid Tank

Low-temperature storage tank is a vertical or horizontal double-layer vacuum insulation storage tank for storing liquid oxygen, nitrogen, argon, carbon dioxide and other media. The inner container is made of austenitic stainless steel; the outer container material is selected as Q235-B, Q245R or 345R according to national regulations. The inner and outer containers are filled with pearlescent sand or aluminum foil, insulation cotton and vacuumed.

Basic form

There is no uniform standard for the design definition of cryogenic storage tanks. Relative to the British technical standards in this area are more comprehensive. It's standard "Flat Bottom Vertical Cylinder Low-Temperature Storage Tank Application" defines low-temperature tanks as single-tank, double-tank, and full-tank tanks according to different process requirements and media storage methods. Single-container tanks are generally composed of a steel inner tank and a thermal insulation shell, while double-container tanks and full-container tanks are composed of a steel inner tank and a steel or concrete outer tank. Between the inner and outer tank walls, a double-tank tank is currently used.

Static electricity is a kind of static charge. In the dry and windy winter, people often encounter this phenomenon in daily life, such as when wearing clothes or combing hair. Cryogenic Liquid Cylinder Supplier tells you that there are static electricity in storage tanks in winter, but many people ignore this problem.

In fact, static electricity sometimes causes problems for storage tanks, such as static electricity can cause sparks, so we still have to take some measures to prevent static electricity in winter.

There are four main methods commonly used, and doing these tasks can reduce the generation of static electricity.

(1) Control the flow rate into the tank

The amount of static electricity generated by oil flowing in the pipeline is proportional to the square of the flow rate. Reducing the flow is an effective way to reduce the static electricity generated by the oil.

(2) Prevent electricity from impact and splash

Oil splashing and filling from the top produces twice as much static electricity as submerged loading from the bottom. If the top filling method is used, the feed tube should be inserted into the bottom of the tank.

(3) Eliminate static electricity on the human body

Workers entering dangerous places should wear anti-static shoes, anti-static clothes or cotton work clothes, and set up a human body electrostatic discharge device at the storage tank escalator.

(4) Prevent the accumulation of static electricity

Grounding is a basic and important measure to prevent static electricity. Metal jumpers shall be provided between two adjacent metallic objects, flanges or joint pads with insulation. The grounding resistance should be checked regularly to keep the grounding in good condition.
