In relief sculpture, sculptors mainly use four basic techniques in common. Four main techniques exist in sculpting: roughly divided into carving, assembling, modeling, and casting. To put it simply, these processes are either subtractive, that is, the material is removed. Or carved out, or additive, or the material is added in.
The first kind of carving: carving includes a rudiment formed by cutting or cutting off some excess materials from a large number of stones or other hard materials. Engraving is a decreasing process, it is a subtractive process, and the material is systematically eliminated from the outside to the inside.
The second is the casting method: it is a sculpture made of molten material usually made of metal, then poured into a mold and then the mold is cooled to harden the metal, usually the material is mostly bronze. Casting is an additional process.
The third type of modeling: modeling sculptures are built from soft or plastic materials and sometimes formed by molding on the armature. Modeling is an additional process.
Finally, the assembly: In the process of assembly, the sculptor needs to collect a lot of information and add different materials to create an assembled sculpture. For example, a large relief requires meticulous detail from the material to the entire process control. Assembly is an additive process.
