SANS 1024:2012 Welded Fabric Reinforcement
Welded mesh fabric used for the reinforcement of concrete is manufactured to SANS 1024:2012 and other international standard specifications.
Features
· Welded mesh reinforcing sheets are the most commonly used form of reinforcing in concrete and is particularly suited for flat slab construction and concrete surface beds. Other design applications would be:
o Retaining walls
o Shear walls
o Beams and columns.
o Concrete Paving overlays
o Suspended floor slabs
o Swimming pool and sprayed concrete reinforcing

· Welded mesh sheets can be detailed as either flat or bend sheets depending on the contract requirements
· Welded mesh sheets can be fabricated to non-standard sizes depending on contract requirements.
· Welded mesh reinforcement reduces construction time considerably by eliminating the tying of reinforcing bars on site.
· SANS 1024:2012 designated fabric mats are standard welded reinforcing sheets and can be scheduled simply by reference to the fabric type, sheet dimensions and in instances where bend material is required the bending shape code. (The reference is the nominal mass of the fabric in kg/m² x 100)
· The cold-rolled deformed wire used in welded mesh reinforcement fabric has a minimum characteristic strength (0.2% proof stress) of 485 MPa compared to 450 MPa for high tensile rebar. Reinforcing fabric may be used at higher stresses than high tensile rebar resulting in material saving of up to 8%.

Important design criteria
Placing of fabric
· In order to obtain the best results when using fabric reinforcement, special care must be taken to ensure that the mesh is positioned and maintained at the correct depth after the concrete placing. This can be achieved by using stools or plastic/concrete spacers.
· Ideally fabric must be located 50 mm from the top of the slab (Check Engineer’s Specification) and where bottom steel is required, it must also be supported 50 mm above the substrate.
Lapping of fabric sheets
It is recommended that in calculating the lap requirements for surface beds welded fabric reinforcement that the 25 x diameter + 150 mm or 300 mm, whichever is the greatest (Check Engineer’s requirements)
Quality
Our welded mesh fabric is manufactured under strict ISO 9001:2008 quality controls with all standards conforming to the requirements of SANS 1024:2012.
