Any device used to fasten running rails into seats or Base Plate or straight to sleepers, bearers or alternative rail supports. Rail Fastening keeps rails fastened to sleepers (move of drives ), supplies a suitable slope of railroad foot (1:20, 1:40) from the transverse plane, prevents the railing from rotational motion, damps sound and vibration coming out of railings.
General Requirements for Rail Fastening
Rail fastenings shall:
Hold railings securely at the rail seat.
Limit the turning of the railing about the outer borders of the rail foot.
Minimise longitudinal movement of railings through creep and thermal forces.
Help in retention of Course Indicator.
Not cause damage to the rail.
Where practicable, rail fastenings will be self-tensioning or allow tightening of the fastening into a predetermined load.
Where present rail fastenings aren't helpful in minimising longitudinal movement of railings, it's permissible to match rail anchors as a process of fulfilling this requirement.
